What is HVAC Duct testing?

Duct leakage testing is a diagnostic test designed to measure the airtightness of forced air HVAC and their ductwork. We use a calibrated duct testing fan and manometer to test the airtightness of ductwork, which is very important to energy conservation.

Does the RESNET/ACCA/ANSI 310 Standard for Grading the Installation of HVAC Systems apply to non-HERS Rated homes?

Yes, it can. The 310 standard is an excellent evaluation of the HVAC system install. TBHS offers this test as a stand-alone service to help ensure that a quality HVAC installation has occurred, providing peace of mind to both the builder and homeowner.

Does a HERS Rating or other energy program include HVAC testing?

HVAC testing is a stand-alone service that is focused on evaluating the quality and efficacy of an HVAC system install and is not included in other energy testing services. HERS ratings require testing on duct leakage to the outside of the envelope; this is a test focused on determining potential energy costs. The ENERGY STAR for Homes certification requires both Total Duct Leakage testing—which evaluates environmental home comfort—and leakage to the outside testing.
